‘This is India's moment; seize the opportunity’: Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang

Nvidia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jensen Huang, after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the U.S., said India must seize the opportunity emerging technology like AI presents. He said his company is looking forward to partnering with India in a big way. "AI is a new manufacturing industry that is very important. I am looking forward to partnering with India in a very deep way."

Elaborating on his company's partnership with India, Huang says Nvidia is helping the startups create the next-gen supercomputers. "We have many partnerships with India. For one, we are helping India gain access to our most advanced technologies. We are partnering with internet companies...to create the latest generation AI supercomputers for all startups."

The CEO of the world's third most valued company says India is the home of the third largest startup economy. "This new generation of startups are all based on AI. In order to do so, you have to have AI infrastructure."

Speaking about the number of partnerships Nvidia has across India, Huang says every IIT has an Nvidia AI centre of excellence. "We are teaching professionals and students how to upskill in this new world of AI."

He said AI in a lot of ways is a complicated technology but in the end, it enables a country to take advantage of technology and computers in a way that has never been possible before. "So it democratises computing. This is India's moment. We have to seize the opportunity."

He said he has enjoyed many meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "He is such an incredible student and every time I see him, he wants to learn about AI, technology, the potential and opportunity for India. The impact on Indian society and industry. So I was delighted to be here to talk about it. India, as you know, is also home to some of the world's greatest computer scientists."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a 3-day state visit to the United States, on the back of the Quad Leaders’ Summit. The PM met with technology leaders in New York during a roundtable hosted by MIT, focusing on AI, quantum technologies, biotechnology, computing, and semiconductors yesterday.

The CEO’s roundtable was attended by 15 tech CEOs including Adobe’s President Shantanu Narayen, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai, and Huang.

U.S. chip design firm NVIDIA, which had recently become the world's most valuable company, has an m-cap of $2.8 trillion, making it the third most valuation company in the world. For comparison, Apple has an m-cap of $3.4 trillion and Microsoft has an m-cap of $3.2 trillion.
